Safety Gloves by Hazard: Cut, Chemical, Thermal and Handling

The plant's highest-turnover PPE and the one most often chosen wrong. We carry the full families and help you assign the right level per position.

Personal Protective Equipment

The hand accumulates more injuries than any other body part in manufacturing, and gloves are the PPE bought most by unit price and least by technical criteria. A high cut-level glove in a fine assembly position gets taken off because it gets in the way; a cotton glove in a sheet metal position protects nothing.

We work the families by hazard. For cut, the ANSI/ISEA 105 scale runs A1 to A9 and the European EN 388 uses four digits for abrasion, cut, tear and puncture: they are different scales and do not translate into each other. For chemical you must go by material compatibility — nitrile, neoprene, PVC, butyl — against the actual substance on your safety data sheet.

With your plant's list of positions and hazards we build the glove-by-position matrix, with level, material and size. That is what NOM-017-STPS-2008 asks you to document, and it is what stops the wrong glove from being bought a third time.

What to check in this line

Cut resistance A1 to A9

ANSI/ISEA 105 scale. We carry from general handling level through sheet metal and glass, with nitrile or polyurethane coating for grip.

Documented chemical compatibility

Nitrile, neoprene, PVC and butyl. The choice comes from the substance's safety data sheet, not from a catalog.

Thermal and welding

Split leather, suede and aluminized lining for contact and radiant heat, with sleeve length matched to the process.

Fine assembly and ESD

Thin-gauge gloves with polyurethane coating and dissipative versions for electronics lines.

Where it is used

  • Stamping, cutting and sheet metal handling
  • Electronics assembly and ESD areas
  • Chemical handling and laboratory
  • Welding and hot work
  • Warehouse, loading and pallet handling
  • Cleaning and general maintenance
Questions

About safety gloves

It depends on the edge, the force and the exposure of the position. As a reference, general handling is usually solved at A1-A2, thin sheet at A3-A4, and glass or burred sheet at A5 or above. The right approach is to assess position by position, not plant-wide.

No. They are different scales with different test machines. They do not convert into each other; you have to read the one that applies to your specification.

By condition, not calendar: perforation, palm thinning, detached coating or chemical contamination. A torn glove protects less than none because it gives false confidence.

We carry gloves for electrical risk. For energized work, class-rated insulating gloves require periodic testing under your procedure; we brief you on what the specification demands before quoting.
