Dielectric Footwear for Electrical-Risk Work

A fully non-conductive boot: polycarbonate cap, dielectric sole and nylon eyelets. For people who work while the energy is still live.

Safety Footwear

A boot is called dielectric when none of its parts offers a path to current: not the cap, not the eyelets, not the sole. It is a condition of the whole assembly, not an adjective on the model, and it is worth checking piece by piece before buying.

The dielectric footwear we carry has a 100 % dielectric polycarbonate cap, a dual-density injected TPU-PU sole and 100 % dielectric nylon eyelets reinforced with a washer so the lace never loses its grip. The result is a boot that can work near a panel without becoming part of the circuit.

Dielectric footwear is secondary protection: it accompanies the lockout-tagout procedure, class-rated insulating gloves and the approach distance. It never replaces them. We state this on the quote because it is the most expensive confusion we have seen on a plant floor.

What to check in this line

Fully non-conductive assembly

Cap, eyelets and sole with no metal. A single metal part cancels the dielectric condition of the whole pair.

Hydrocarbon-resistant sole

TPU resistant to oils, gasoline and solvents: the floor of a substation or an electrical shop is rarely dry and clean.

Nylon eyelets with washers

Reinforced so the grip does not loosen with use, which is what usually fails first on a non-metallic eyelet.

Metal-detector compatible

With no metal, the operator does not interrupt the access flow in plants with metal screening.

Where it is used

  • Industrial electrical maintenance
  • Substations and motor control centers
  • Panel installation and maintenance
  • Telecommunications and structured cabling
  • General plant maintenance
  • Photovoltaic installation
Questions

About dielectric footwear

It is secondary protection. It reduces the risk of your body closing the circuit to ground, but it does not replace lockout-tagout, insulating gloves or approach distance.

Check all three parts: non-metallic cap, non-metallic eyelets and a non-conductive sole. If the datasheet only mentions the sole, ask about the other two.

The sole does degrade: with oil soaked in, tread worn down to the midsole or deep cuts, it stops behaving as an insulator. That is why replacement goes by condition, not by calendar.

For high-voltage work you must check the specific requirement of your procedure and the applicable NOM. We help you cross-check the model datasheet against your requirement before you buy.
