Safety Gloves in Tijuana: Which Level Goes in Each Position
Gloves are the plant's highest-turnover PPE and the most often chosen wrong. Almost always by buying a level instead of a criterion.
ANSI A1 to A9: what each band means
The ANSI/ISEA 105 scale measures the load in grams needed to cut the material. As a practical reference: general handling is usually solved at A1-A2, thin sheet and edged assembly at A3-A4, and burred sheet or glass at A5 or above. Each position is assessed separately; a whole plant does not have a single level.
EN 388 does not translate to ANSI
EN 388 returns four digits — abrasion, cut, tear and puncture — from a different test method. There is no valid conversion table. If your parent specifies in one scale, ask for the figure in that scale.
Chemical: chosen by permeation, not by color
Nitrile, neoprene, PVC and butyl behave differently against each substance. The choice comes from the chemical's safety data sheet and the manufacturer's permeation table, not from how the glove looks or what was used before.
A glove that gets in the way protects nothing
An A6 in fine assembly comes off within ten minutes because it will not let you pick up a small part. In practice that position ends with zero protection. The right level with good dexterity beats the maximum level nobody wears.
When to retire them
By condition, not calendar: perforation, palm thinning, detached coating or chemical contamination. A torn glove protects less than none, because the worker trusts it.
How to calculate real consumption
Gloves per operator per week, times operators, times weeks in the period. That number is what you negotiate volume pricing with and what builds the delivery calendar. Without it, every purchase is an emergency.
